Hey everyone, it's me, RiRi.

Hope you are all well and not suffering from the humidity.

How were your Obon holidays? Did you do anything special?

For me, since I don't have any relatives in Japan, Obon is a time to take a break from work and relax at home ( it's too hot and humid to go outside!).

However, this year  I got the chance to dance at Osaka Expo 2025 with the organization Global Mom to Mom

My friend Ariyo recommended me to the owner of the group Yoko after someone dropped out. Thank you Ariyo and Yoko for the opportunity!

There were a few online rehearsals, which were fun but a bit challenging. I am not tech savvy but after the first lesson, I got into the swing of things.

I was so surprised at how many children were participating. Many of the children were really good at the moves and remembering what dance move happened next. They  also did well at freestyling. Even some of the parents got involved during the rehearsals. It was lovely to see everyone supporting each other.

Everyone was worried about the heat and humidity on the day. Luckily, it was overcast and slightly windy.

I was so surprised at how many people there were at the Expo. Even in the morning, the train and station were packed.

Our stage was near the West gate. We were right next to the Gangnam statue!

It was my first time meeting the parents and kids in person. It was nice putting names to faces and interacting in real life.

There were several dances and comedy sketches during the performance. Everyone did a great job. I got a bit teary eyed seeing the moms dance with their babies during the African performance.

The dances that were included in the performance were African, Indian, Japan, European, American and one Musical. I was on stage for the American and British. I was really impressed at the kids' professionalism. It was really windy but they were not bothered by it. They looked like they were enjoying themselves.

There were also comedy sketches from the parents and kids. which were really funny and imaginative. My favorite was the Pokémon one!

Thank you to everyone who saw our performances, Yoko and the other mums and kids of Global Mom to Mom and Ariyo for organizing, taking part and making it a memorable experience!
