Dance Lessons

LiD has a directory listing dance studios and the prefecture that they are in. You can find the blog post here. Please click on the studio name to be redirected to the website.
Try and research as many dance studios as possible. That way it will be easier to find a class that you like.
Taking a dance lesson is a great way to connect with other dancers and to find events. Many dance studios host their own performances and teachers even invite their students to events they are dancing in.
Websites
Here are some websites that specialize in dancing in Japan.
Dance Delight is excellent for finding events and competitions for hip hop, waacking, locking, pop, old school and breaking.
This website is particularly good at listing events up and down Japan. Enter the Stage is a good website to look for battles and workshops.
Iflyer often posts club events with appearances from local dancers. Check out their club and event pages for more info.
If you are able to read Japanese, then this website is a good source of information. There is even an exam you can take to be certified!
Tokyo Dance Life is another website that posts events. It is also a good website to find rental studios for practice. However, the majority of the information is for Tokyo.
Social Media
In this day and age, social media is one of the best ways to get information on events. Using hashtags is a great way to get connected and to receive information quickly.
Follow a event/dancer/dance studio’s social media to be opened up to a world of connections.
If you have come to Japan by yourself and want to meet like minded people, then check out Facebook groups. Black Women In Japan and Black Creatives Japan are examples of this. Type your demographic and words such as dance/creative/events and see what comes up.
